[All Articles and Op-Eds] The General's Dilemma | NewAmerica.net: the memoriesof participants in the White House decision-making that led to the surge are, inevitably, selective, and, as one official involved put it, the deliberationswere entirely “non-linear.” According to interviews with civilian and militaryofficials, however, the critical Bush Administration debates occurred duringthe last six months of 2006, climaxing in the President’s decision to dispatchmore troops to Iraq, and to appoint Petraeus as Commanding General early in 2007. The deliberationsappear to have been similar to other cases in which postwar American Presidentshave decided upon the use of force, at least in one respect: there was aprolonged, often delicate and indirect call-and-response between the WhiteHouse and the Pentagon about the decision to put soldiers in harm’s way.Rumsfeld, the interlocutor between the President and the military, had longresisted any plan to send American divisions abroad for projects that smackedof nation-building.

[Spectrum Blog] Creation: Fiddling While Rome Burns | Spectrum: I think Chuck's core point is that if we are spending out time, attention and energy as a community of disciples fighting over whether the original creation was 13 billion yeras ago or 1 million, or the special creation of life on Earth was 6,000 years ago or significantly longer ago, then we are spending our limited personal resources in a somewhat useless way in an area of endeavor that the Bible does not actually "answer" and we are not doing what the Bible actually enjoins us to do in spreading the Good News about God. We major in minors and create a lot of heat but no light.
