[Learnings @ Leadership Network] Learnings @ Leadership Network: Questions Raised by Executive Pastors: Multi-Site: The larger the church, the more likely it is to be multi-site, and the impetus is typically one of evangelism - creating more opportunities to make disciples of Jesus Christ. As one of the forum participants said, “Our campuses have forced us to re-evaluate our home base.”
[Matt Capps Blog] Review of Jim Belcher's 'Deep Church' - Part 1 « Matt Capps Blog: I believe that the diagnosis offered by those in the emergent camp is in many ways legitimate and Belcher summarizes them well. I must say though, that the ”cure offered by some of the emergents on these charges is often over contextualized.
The Lead: "Shocking severity...invoking the death penalty...makes pastoral care impossible...turns pastors into informers." And then Williams, for the first time I can recall since he came to office points a prophetic finger and (in a louder whisper) names the cruel inconsistency of a GAFCON archbishop, a Lambeth-boycotter, a self-appointed keeper of righteousness, consistency, and purity, saying [even though the Ugandan church he leads officially claims to oppose capital punishment --- yes all implied but also, yes, there] that Henry Orombi, "has not taken a position on this bill."
[Kevin Tracy] Eastern and Western Trinity Art | Kevin Tracy: The reception of Cosida’s “Trinity” were mixed, as were all other instances of the three faced Trinity that were appearing throughout the Catholic Church in western Europe at the time. However, people’s fascination, which was more superficial than spiritual, caused more paintings like this to begin sprouting up throughout Europe until August 11, 1628 when Pope Urban VIII banned all representations of the Trinity “as a man with three mouths, three noses and four eyes,” as heresy.
[Beatitude] Seeing and Following Jesus - Beatitude: The second passion prediction occurs in Mark 9:31 after which the disciples argue about which one of them is “the greatest.” The third is found in Mark 10:33 and 34, after which James and John ask to sit at Jesus side in glory. Each time Jesus correction roughly says that identifying with peoples suffering and becoming a servant of others is the chosen alternative to being elevated and seen as powerful.

[BlueOregon] BlueOregon: Portland Needs Real Leadership On The City Council: My deepest concerns arent about polls or campaign fundraising (Id like to see all campaigns publically financed and despair that the current council doesnt have the guts to keep the program going and instead is taking the easy way out by bowing to the business community and putting the issue up for a vote that the Portland Business Alliance will then spend hundreds of thousands to defeat). What Im really concerned about is protecting our citys environment, creating affordable housing, reducing poverty and finding jobs that pay a living wage for all those unemployed.
[Dave Travis Now] Dave Travis Now: What IS Changing in the CHURCH: (Long Post Warning) (and this was posted a few days ago over at learnings.leadnet.org) This is the first part of my speech to the Cornerstone Knowledge Network. The speech was in four parts: Things that ARE changing in the Church...
[Learnings @ Leadership Network] Learnings @ Leadership Network: another thought on the multi-site ...: "One change that is sweeping through the Western church today is the multi-site model, where one church spins off several branches or sites. on a typical Sunday in 2009 some five million people”almost 10 percent of protestant worshippers”attend a multi-site church in the US or Canada.
[Beatitude] Sacrifice - Beatitude: type of sacrifice are a costly way, but the path for those who follow Jesus is a path shaped by the sacrifice of self rather than a trail marked by the sacrifice of others. Our sacrificial giving and serving participates with God to do things we enjoy as we bless the world.
[Ed Bahler's Blog...To Enhance Ministry] Imagination « Ed Bahler's Blog”¦To Enhance Ministry: We’ve been pondering causes and the church’s inability to arrest it. [FlowerDust.net] i'm curious - what does going to church look like? | FlowerDust.net: Kind of a blender and conventional. Go to a weekly worship service on Sunday and attend a house church during the week.(both are under the same church umbrella) I think there is going to be an out pouring of community based church, whether it be in someone’s home or on a larger scale in a traditional church setting.
