[HBS Working Knowledge] First Look: October 21, 2008 ”” HBS Working Knowledge: We implement the methodology in a field experiment in Zambia using door-to-door marketing of a home water purification solution. We find that higher prices screen out those who use the product less.

[Andrew Bolt] Forum - Tuesday, May 27 | Herald Sun Andrew Bolt Blog: Now we’re stuck with a bloke for PM who never graduated in leadership skills higher than those needed by the leader of a highschool debating team.

[SelfGrowth.com articles for Natural Health] The Tangible Miracles Of Gayatri Meditation: Just as when the strings of a guitar or sitar (Indian musical instrument) are twanged a beautiful lilting tune emerges similarly when the Gayatri Mantra is chanted with devotion the latent energies of the bodily Chakras are activated and thus the devotee manifests a divine aura. In this manner Gayatri Mantra chanting subtly commences Yogic practices and when the subtle energy centres of the body are awakened they benefit the devotee both materially and spiritually in an extraordinary manner.

[Out of Ur] Brian McLaren on the Homosexual Question: Finding a Pastoral ...: For me, the concern started when McLaren the February 7, 2005 issue of Time Magazine said, “Asked at a conference last spring what he thought about gay marriage, Brian McLaren replied, ”˜You know what, the thing that breaks my heart is that there's no way I can answer it without hurting someone on either side’”. Sadly, by failing to answer, McLaren was unwilling to say what the Bible says and in so doing really hurt God’s feelings and broke his heart.

[DC's Improbable Science] Nutritional Fairy Tales from Thames Valley University: So, focusing as we do now upon elimination of toxins (the very nub of classical naturopathy), we perceive that it is a process that depends upon a good strong Life Force and also upon adequate nutrient intake. Therapies that directly stimulate the Life Force (homoeopathy, acupuncture and spiritual healing) therefore make an indirect, though real, contribution to toxic elimination through increasing the Life Force or otherwise improving its health and balance.

[TalkLeft] Sunday Open Thread - TalkLeft: The Politics Of Crime: In this situation we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will allow us to maintain this position of disparity.

[Boing Boing] Post-apocalypse without the militias: The Outquisition - Boing Boing: and not because I think it would be a necessary tool for feeding my family should the apocalypse come. I say it because I cannot bring myself to believe that I will never encounter someone who IS armed and feels a need to harm, suppress, enslave, etc me or my family - especially in a world where society, and presumptively the rule of law, have fallen apart.

[Flopping Aces] Flopping Aces » Blog Archive » My Party, Right or Wrong: You’ve all seen the video by now that’s been sent around for the last 3 days….exit polls of otherwise seemingly intelligent Americans saying “The Republicans have been in charge of congress the last 2 years” and “Sarah Palin is the one whose daughter is pregnant out of wedlock”

[SciTechBlog] SciTechBlog: Blog Archive - Al Gore’s Challenge « - Blogs from CNN.com: The ozone punched a hole in its self, car exhaust is a good thing and makes our planet more inhabitable, we need to stay dependent on foreign oil because it’s good for the economy and not a security risk, if we drill more in the US we’ll solve all of our problems and have a Merry Christmas, global warming would happen anyway so why even investigate the possibility that we have any effect on it at all, there is an endless supply of oil if we just find it and dig it up, solar and wind power is too hippie like to even consider (not macho enough like huge trucks and hummers), America has the right to do whatever the heck it pleases just as long as there’s money to be made because, hey, we’re America!, Bush is really concerned about the environment and doesn’t care how it might effect the oil business if we find alternative and cheaper renewable energy, this is all a brand new phenomenon and has not been discussed since the 1960’s, etc., etc.

[Krsna Blog - HareKrsna.com] The Hare Krsnas - Krsna Blog - Weblog Entry - 06/26/2005 ...: In my mind, the criterion that must be applied first and foremost is that the prospective guru recognizes Srila Prabhupada to be a Sampradaya Acarya, and as such they are following in Srila Prabhupada’s footsteps by following his method of presenting the siddhanta of the Sampradaya, his sadhana process for applying and realizing the philosophy, and his techniques for preaching Krsna Consciousness. Unless one adopts this attitude towards the Sampradaya Acarya, then the chances of them getting involved in an unfortunate relationship with an unqualified person who claims to be a representative, when in actuality they are falling far below the standard of being a bonafide representative of the Sampradaya Acaryas.”

[Andrew Bolt] Forum - Wednesday, August 20 | Herald Sun Andrew Bolt Blog: One of the 20th Century’s most distinguished philosophers, Antony Flew recently adopted a deist position after a lifetime of atheism. Interestingly one of his main reasons for rejecting atheism was the complexity of life as revealed by science.

[ANTHRAX VACCINE BLOG] ANTHRAX VACCINE BLOG: Anthrax Vaccine: When Alving went to Dover Air Force Base in May 1999 to refute my allegations in Vanity Fair, he did not tell a single person attending these briefings (organized by former Air Force Surgeon General Charles Roadman) that the GAO had been investigating his (Alving's), role in adding squalene-based adjuvants to a "more potent anthrax vaccine for Desert Shield." Finally, in his attacks on Tulane, Alving has never mentioned the Army's new anthrax vaccine and his particular contribution to it - squalene and cholesterol-based adjuvants. If squalene and cholesterol are as safe to inject as Alving maintains they are, why not openly discuss the data to the contrary?
