Generation Leadership > Getting off track
[Cllr. Gavin Ayling] I worry that I am talking so much ideology that I am losing, not only my ability to communicate what I believe, but also to connect with people. I would, therefore, like to make a brief post about my core beliefs and avoid getting ideological about them:
[The Hotline's Blogometer] 5/30: Deja Vu All Over Again: The only possible reason for raising this issue would be to clear the decks for another presidential run in 2008, but like 2004, it shows that Kerry's only strategy for elections is to live in a refashioned past." Lefty The Democratic Daily: "If John Kerry is going to have a chance to win in 2008 it will be necessary for him eliminate the controversy created by the Swift Boat Liars. Even though the facts were clear that O'Neil and other were both lying and working with GOP operatives, the media concentrated on the horse race aspect with questions as to how the charges affected the campaign, and gave far too little attention to the overwhelming amount of evidence supporting Kerry."
[The Anthropik Network] The Fifth World Manifesto: It's our latest MediaWiki-based project, but instead of developing an encyclopedia with it, we're trying to use it to develop an anthropology of the future. Users are completely free to use, edit, and add to the wiki as they see fit, creating a uniquely realistic, changing world. The name refers to the shared belief from the Maya and the Hopi that we currently live in the Fourth World, with three preceding worlds that were destroyed by humans losing sight of their relationship with the rest of the world. In each world, there was a small group that did remember their relationship with the world, and so survived to populate the next world.
[La Russophobe] Psycho Russia, Qu'es que c'est?: Hosking fascinatingly advances as "two distinguished interpreters of the Russian national identity" Nicholas Berdyaev and Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the former asserting a Russian "imperialist temptation" as easily assimilable to the messianic Soviet myth, the latter denying this as an un-Russian importation from the West. (I have always treasured Berdyaevs comments on the countrys Revolutionaries, long before they drove him into exile, in that splendid contrarian manifesto of just a hundred years ago, Vekhi: "Scientific positivism, and everything else Western, was accepted in its most extreme form and converted not only into a primitive metaphysic, but even into a special religion supplanting all previous religions".) Hosking covers, very relevantly to Stalinist history and feeling and thinking, the ideology-driven destruction of the peasantry in the early 1930s.

[Weblogs.swarthmore.edu] Easily Distracted » Blog Archive » Summers Vacation: The general implications–the ideological ones–are the ones most likely to resound through the world. The story that matters most for other academics, for citizens in general is the ideological one, because that will have the most impact on them;
[Powerlineblog.com] Power Line: March 2005 Archives: Krugman's arguments keep sliding downhill, as he cites--bizarrely--yesterday's Washington Post article about pharmacists who are declining to fill prescriptions for drugs--e.g., the "morning after" pill--that are inconsistent with their religious beliefs, as support for the idea that liberals will start getting assassinated any moment now.
[Acsblog.org] ACSBlog: The Blog of the American Constitution Society: SpongeBob ...: More than 100 popular childrens characters, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney, Winnie the Pooh, Big Bird, and Dora the Explorer, are all featured performing together in a music video of the song, “We Are Family.” Producer Christopher Cerf stated, “The producers and performers from each show embraced the spirit and message of this project. They were thrilled to allow their characters to appear with other characters from different shows simply because they understood the importance and meaning behind ”We Are Family.”
