[Mt.middlebury.edu] Diversity: I got hungry when I saw Mary Ellen Bertolini's blog, Slices of Cake (Mary Ellen has this wonderful habit of talking in cooking and parenting metaphors--even if this particular title is from Alfred Hitchcock). In Barbara Ganley's weblog, bgblogging, she talks about different types of software and ways of using them for different types of users, and most particularly, explores, in interesting ways, the possible opportunities, or not, that could arise from her upcoming collaborative blog project, blogging-the-world.
[Thealders.net] Doug's Dynamic Drivel: June 2003 Archives: Had I been certain at the time as to what it was I would have tried to get closer for a better look but I only caught a glimpse and we have grizzlies in the area so I didn't want to attract attention to myself if my initial impression was wrong :-) Today on my walk I saw a salamander cross my path which was really cool as I have never seen one in the wild before. Hope this job lasts - definitely time for a digital camera, it just isn'y going to be the good one that I want as that is beyond my finances.
[Perrspectives.com] PERRspectives Blog: Media Archives: Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo, the Eagle Forum's Phyllis Schlafly and a member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps will discuss topics such as "Immigration Reform: How Many and Whom?" Former Georgia Representative and Bush illegal wiretap foe Bob Barr will speak on "Preserving Civil Liberties in the Fight Against Terrorism" to what will likely be an empty room. And as the trial of Bush sugar-daddy and former Enron chief Ken Lay heats up in Houston, the Wall Street Journal and Free Enterprise Fund will rail against the "burdensome and unconstitutional" Sarbanes-Oxley law.
[Swarthmore.edu] Ancient Blog: This isnt just a case of individual injustice as it stands: it is another example of academias seemingly boundless capacity for self-diminishment. At a historical juncture where the wider American society is surely going to begin interrogating the value of higher education in a steadily more pointed and assertive manner, cases where a professor is thrown overboard despite exemplary scholarship and excellent teaching because he is independent, contrary and maybe even occasionally non-cooperative in his dealings with colleagues confirm all the worst stereotypes of academic life.
